NEWS: Simscale webinars to teach architects benefits of simulation

Fluid flow simulation can help anyone whose design work is impacted by wind loads, air comfort, and ventilation

Cloud-based simulation specialist Simscale is running a series of online training courses to help architects and engineers learn how to use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to predict and optimise the performance of buildings in the early stage of the design process

The German software developer believes that while simulation is already widely used in mechanical engineering, its adoption in architecture and construction is low, due to the lack of knowledge and affordable tools. Simscale tackles the issue of cost by offering a number different plans, ranging from a free model where all model data is public, to a pay per month model which scales with compute hours and storage.

SimScale has worked with McNeel and Vind-Vind to create the free online training course which starts by introducing the fundamentals and potential of CFD for AEC applications, then goes onto teach participants how to integrate simulation with their CAD/BIM process and data.

All participants get free access to SimScale with all the required simulation features. No prior knowledge or software is required, the company says.

Wind Comfort Prediction with CFD

November 23rd 2017 6:00 P.M. CET / 12:00 ET

With the complexity of modern urban areas, the pedestrian wind environment analysis becomes a critical factor in urban and building planning design, helping to ensure the overall well-being, safety, and comfort in pedestrian zones. During this webinar, you will learn the physical fundamentals of wind comfort, the related standards and guidelines, as well as how to properly model terrain, atmosphere, and surroundings in order to create a simulation on your own.

Wind Load Prediction with CFD

November 30th 2017 4:00 P.M. CET / 10:00 ET

Wind load is one of the main concerns in construction codes. In addition to gravitational loads, earthquakes, and other factors, wind gusts-induced loads can cause failure in structures. During this lecture, you will get introduced to safety-related aspects of facade dimensioning and related standards and how to identify the right type of load case based on simulation.

Air Conditioning and Ventilation

December 7th 2017 4:00 P.M. CET / 09:00 ET

Human comfort in homes, office spaces, and buildings, in general, is one of the most important goals in building design and HVAC. Therefore, one of the current engineering challenges for building engineers is the adequate design of ventilation for maximum comfort and energy efficiency. During this lecture, you will learn about the fundamentals of heating and ventilation process modelling.
