Entry-level mobile workstation features new Tiger Lake-U CPUs and bioplastic from tree waste

The Dell Precision 3560 is a new entry-level 15-inch mobile workstation that’s a refresh of the Dell Precision 3550, which launched last May.

The main improvements come from new processors, including Intel’s Tiger Lake-U 11th Gen CPUs and the Nvidia Quadro T500 GPU with 2GB GDDR6. The 1.59kg laptop supports up to 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR4, 3200Mhz Non-ECC memory.

Dell says the Precision 3560 is about 6% smaller than the 3550 but boasts advanced thermal designs that help keep the system running cool.

There’s a choice of four Tiger Lake-U CPUs, including the top-end Intel Core i7-1185G7.

The 15W processor’s 4.80 GHz Turbo makes it well suited to single-threaded applications like CAD and BIM, but with four cores and a base clock of 1.9 GHz, architects and engineers shouldn’t expect great multithreaded performance in applications such as ray trace rendering.

Other new features include a new Pro2 keyboard, a larger touchpad, enhanced sound quality, Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 and an optional 4K display (100% sRGB, 400nit).

Storage is M.2 SSD only, with no optional Hard Disk Drive (HDD). ExpressConnect is designed to find the best WiFi connection based on signal strength and available bandwidth.

Dell points out that the Precision 3560 has been designed with sustainability in mind, and is the first PC to use bioplastic from tree waste in its design.

Produced using a by-product of the paper making process called ‘tall oil,’ the lid contains 21% bioplastic content.

According to Dell, this supports its ‘moonshot goal’ that by 2030, more than half of its product content will be made with recycled or renewable materials.

The Dell Precision 3560 starts at $1,189

Dell has also launched several new professional monitors including 24″, 27″, 38″ and 40″ models. This includes the QHD (2,560 x 1,440) UltraSharp 27 (U2722D) and the UltraSharp 40 Curved WUHD (U4021QW), which Dell says is the world’s first 40″ curved WUHD 5K2K monitor.
