Acquisition of German software developer to give FARO access to CAD-integrated point cloud technology including scan-to-BIM for Revit
3D measurement technology specialist FARO has acquired kubit, a developer of software for surveying and as-built documentation. The move will give FARO access to software that can integrate point cloud data into CAD and BIM environments, specifically AutoCAD and Revit.
Faro develops the Focus3D range of laser scanners but its SCENE software is more focused on point cloud manipulation and delivering CAD compatible files, as opposed to CAD integration.
kubit’s software portfolio includes PointSense for the management and processing of laser scan data within AutoCAD and VirtuSurv for using and evaluating laser scan data with or without CAD. However, more importantly, the firm is also known to be developing a scan-to-BIM tool for Revit, which is likely to be competitive to ClearEdge3D’s EdgeWise BIM Suite.
“The acquisition of kubit is an exciting step in FARO’s strategy to develop integrated, disruptive 3D documentation product offerings for the Architecture, Engineering and Construction market,” stated Jay Freeland, FARO’s President and CEO. “By adding kubit’s products to our portfolio, customers now have significantly enhanced software options to serve a vast array of point cloud modelling, analysis needs, and measurement capabilities with very high connectivity to the Autodesk suite of products.”
