Smart Properties feature in BIMcollab Zoom designed to help teams working with data from multiple sources

The latest release of BIMcollab Zoom, the BIM validation tool, now allows users to re-organize and structure BIM data from different sources, so they don’t have to rely on authors changing their own models.

With the new ‘Smart Properties’ feature users can create their own properties and classifications based on existing object attributes, or map values from different properties to a single new, user-defined property.

According to the developers, the Smart Properties feature can also improve and speed up workflows, as the centrally structured data can be used everywhere. For example, to drive smart views, clash rules and lists.

“With Smart Properties we have raised Zoom again to a next level. Users can save time when checking model quality with this powerful and easy to use feature. With Zoom and BIMcollab, we are committed to help project teams and BIM coordinators to drive model quality in an easier, cheaper and faster way,” said Erik Pijnenburg, CEO of BIMcollab.

Smart Properties can also be used to fix properties when different attributes have been used for different elements. For example, when the volume for one element is defined in base quantities, and for another it’s located under dimensions. With Smart Properties a common value can be created for each element, which will be easier when extracting data.

Smart Properties can also help when object properties describe a subset of a model, by creating a classification system. For example, the criteria can be set as: walls that are both load bearing and internal, get a new Smart Property value of ’22.2x core structure’.

Finally, Smart Properties can be used to collect components based on a set of values. For example, beams shorter than five metres can be put in a collection called ‘short’ and beams longer than five metres in a collection called ‘long’.
