New release of Spaces for iPad, the sketch-based conceptual design tool, includes a raft of new features

Cerulean Labs has launched Spaces Version 2, a major update to its sketch-based conceptual design tool for the iPad.

The new release introduces a range of new features including space planning, sun studies, a digital sketchbook, and key workflow integration features, including IFC and OBJ export.

Many of the new features are included in a new subscription offering, Spaces Pro, which is available for $75 per month. Space Starter (free) and Spaces ($29 per month) are also available.

Space planning allows users to create and manage their own design briefs, put together project concepts and then create reports to ensure designs meets requirements.

Sun and shadow studies can now be created in a few clicks, simply by entering project location, then selecting from the preset dates and times.

The digital sketchbook enhances the core sketching functionality, allowing users to create sketches, take notes and test ideas. It also provides the digital equivalent of tracing paper, where users can send snapshots of a model to the sketchbook to be quickly traced over to explore ideas in a freehand manner.

For interoperability, IFC and OBJ export allows Spaces models to form the foundation for developed design in a range of CAD and BIM tools, or for producing high-quality renderings.
