Leica iCON trades solution uses industrial precision measurement technology and AI to increase layout efficiency

Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, has launched a new digital layout solution which features 6-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) technology, previously exclusive to industrial measuring, along with an AI-enabled workflow.

The Leica iCON trades solution combines the Leica iCON iCS20 3D measurement and layout tool with Leica iCON iCS50 sensors and ‘industry-tailored’ construction layout workflows.

With AI, computational photography provides what Leica describes as the next level of imagery and photorealistic site documentation. AI predicts where the user takes the pole next to improve target lock, tracking and speed up process time to increase layout efficiency. In addition, Leica iCON trades provides dedicated software-defined and AI-enabled workflows for templating and interior finishing tasks.

“Quicker measurements and layout, reduced waste and rework, and increased efficiency are game changers in construction. Leica iCON trades will catalyse layout automation and speed up workflows without compromising on precision and accuracy,” said Agata Fischer, President of Building Field Solutions at Hexagon’s Geosystems division.

“Reimagining construction layout means unveiling our most ambitious and significant product line-up of established digital layout solutions and brand-new high-accuracy 6DoF tracking and positioning technology,” added Thomas Harring, president at Hexagon’s Geosystems division.

Leica iCON trades is designed for supervisors, site managers, construction surveyors, layout specialists, MEP installers and drywallers.

It works with a variety of file types such as PDF, CSV, TXT, DXF, DWG and IFC. Users can store all data locally or access it via common construction cloud services such as Bricsys 24/7, Autodesk BIM 360, Procore, Bluebeam, Allplan BIMPLUS, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
