Real time rendering tool supports real skies, customisable 3D grass, atmospheric rain and snow and introduces Rhino link

Real skies, customisable 3D grasses and atmospheric rain and snow are among the new features in Lumion 9, the latest release of the AEC-focused real-time rendering tool.

With the new, one-touch Real Skies, users can now cast a new light on a model and ‘instantly create a beautiful, unique setting for 3D designs. There are 39 Real Skies in total to present designs on the perfect clear blue morning, stormy afternoon or unforgettable sunset. As the sky is changed, the design’s entire lighting changes with it.

Realistic rain and snow, including anything from a light drizzle to a full-blown downpour, the winter flurry to a whiteout blizzard, can be used to communicate cozy spaces, which can now be decorated with furry rugs and fluffy blankets. And for a true-to-life garden or park shot, new Customizable 3D Grass materials can also be applied.

New for version 9 is LiveSync for Rhino, adding to the LiveSyncs already supported for Revit, SketchUp and ArchiCAD. The feature allows users to simultaneously model in Rhino and render in Lumion, visualizing changes in real-time. Camera perspectives and materials are synced automatically.

Lumion 9 also includes 112 new high-resolution materials, 634 new objects including interiors, people, cars, etc, and an updated OpenStreetMap. There are also over three hours of video tutorials to help users get up to speed
