New ThinkPad P Series includes powerful ‘VR Ready’ 17.3-inch ThinkPad P71

Lenovo has unveiled three new mobile workstations – the ultra-portable 15.6-inch ThinkPad P51s, the mainstream 15.6-inch ThinkPad P51 and the VR-ready 17.3-inch ThinkPad P71.

With a redesigned 4.3lbs (1.95kg) chassis, Lenovo says the ThinkPad P51s is the lightest and thinnest 15-inch mobile workstation it has ever developed. It’s more than half a pound lighter than the previous generation and, with Power Bridge Technology, it can host two hot-swappable batteries for what Lenovo describes as ‘double digit’ battery life. The machine features Intel’s 7th generation Core i7 processors, an entry-level Nvidia Quadro M520M GPU, up to 32GB DDR4 memory, up to 1TB HDD or PCIe NVMe SSD, as well as a 4K UHD IPS display with optional IR camera.

The ThinkPad P51 offers more performance with a choice of the latest Intel Xeon E3-v6 processors and higher performance Nvidia Quadro GPUs. The machine also offers doubles the memory of the slimline ThinkPad P51s (64GB DDR4) and more storage – a total of three drives, including a 1TB HDD and 2TB PCIe NVMe SSDs. There’s a choice of 15.6” IPS 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160), FHD, or FHD Touch panels.

The ThinkPad P71 is Lenovo’s first ever VR-ready mobile workstation. It features a choice of Xeon E3-v6 processors and powerful graphics, up to the Nvidia Quadro P5000, and is certified for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The ThinkPad P71 can handle up to 64GB DDR4 memory and up to four storage devices. There’s a choice of 17” IPS 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) or FHD panels.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P51s will be available later this month, starting at $1,049, while the ThinkPad P51 and P71 will be available in April, starting at $1,399 and $1,849, respectively.
