On June 11 AEC Magazine’s future gazing conference and exhibition returns to London with some truly amazing presentations. There’ll be autonomous robots from Boston Dynamics, highly optimised digital fabrication from Katerra, robotic construction from Melike Altınısık Architects and lots, lots more

NXT BLD (Next Build) returns to London on 11 June at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in the heart of Westminster. The AEC Magazine team is planning another stellar array of advanced technologists and designers for this year’s voyage into the not too distant future of design and construction.

With rapid deployment of end-to-end digital workflows, significant challenges must be overcome to realise the benefits of digital fabrication, AI and automation. With a bigger venue, NXT BLD 2019 will feature two simultaneous streams of presentations and an expanded exhibition, so this year you might want to bring a colleague.

Topics and speakers

With our expanded focus on digital fabrication, NXT BLD 2019 will be at the forefront of the debate bringing the most exciting technologies and some ‘firsts’ for the AEC market.

Melike Altınısık Architects

Melike Altınısık, principal and founder of Melike Altınısık Architects will be coming from Istanbul to highlight her methodology and approach to using technology and innovation to change the construction of her projects, including a fantastic Robot Science Museum in Seoul, which will be built using robots and drones and the futuristic 369 metre-tall Çamlıca TV and Radio Tower which uses a unique facade design and novel construction methodology.

Boston Dynamics

Many of our readers will be well aware of Boston Dynamics and its incredible research into autonomous robots. This June, experts from Boston Dynamics will talk about the development of the SPOTmini and how autonomous robots can be used in construction for a variety of use cases. Katerra

The rumours are that the US-based firm Katerra is on a mission to change every aspect of building design, materials supply and construction. The design and digital fabrication specialist has been called the Tesla of construction and we will have key players from the firm explaining its advanced digital fabrication process, as well as highlighting its software development to help the rest of the industry.

Supporting life on Mars

Hassel Studio will share details of its NASA competition project, exploring how a human habitat could be delivered on Mars using autonomous 3D printing.

Collaborative design in VR with Arkio

Arkio.is is a brand new firm which was founded by Johan Hanegraaf who spoke at our inaugural event two years ago and demonstrated a VR-based architectural design tool (see tinyurl.com/AEC-VR1). Since then he has been very busy and, with the help of a programming team in Iceland, is about to start a whole new application category of his own. We can’t say any more, you will have to come and see!

In addition to these incredible firms, you will see the latest in computer graphics, Augmented Reality, rendering, workstations and many more advanced technologies. We are currently working on completing our conference lineup and more information will be on nxtbld.com shortly.

The event is going to be seriously good fun and we promise not to mention Brexit.
