Document Crunch’s AI platform helps firms ‘identify and neutralise’ project risks such as payment disputes and notification failures

Trimble has signed an agreement to acquire Document Crunch, a provider of construction-specific AI document analysis and risk management software.

The deal will bring document intelligence and compliance automation into the Trimble Construction One Project Delivery ecosystem, where it is intended to enhance existing workflows in project management and construction ERP systems. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Document Crunch’s AI platform is designed to identify contractual risk provisions, payment disputes, specification non-compliance and notification failures — issues that can directly affect profitability for contractors. The software has been deployed on more than 10,000 projects and serves general contractors, subcontractors, designers, owners, insurance carriers and other parties with an interest in managing construction risk.

Its capabilities include catching invoice payment term mismatches and broader contract and scope risks before they escalate into disputes, streamlining the review and generation of documentation such as risk reviews, project playbooks and delay notifications, and pushing contractual obligations and compliance requirements into project management and ERP workflows.

Mark Schwartz, senior vice president of AECO software at Trimble, described the acquisition in terms of the wider Trimble Construction One suite: “Document Crunch will provide a ‘contractual rule set’ to serve as the intelligent DNA for the entire TC1 suite, automatically pushing critical obligations, compliance requirements and payment terms into Trimble’s project delivery ecosystem.”

Josh Levy, co-founder and chief executive of Document Crunch, said that joining Trimble would enable the company to scale its platform. “We’re excited to build upon the strategic foundation of Trimble to help customers unlock new dimensions of value from data that resides across the construction lifecycle,” he said. “Joining Trimble allows us to scale our vision and evolve to a core component of a widely comprehensive construction platform.”

Document Crunch is an existing component of the Trimble Ventures portfolio and a current Trimble Marketplace partner, and already integrates with Trimble ProjectSight project management software. The company’s risk reduction platform is currently available for North American civil and building contractors. Further integrations within the Trimble Construction ecosystem are planned as part of the future product roadmap.
