London-based firm hopes to help streamline collaboration on BIM projects anywhere in the world
Cloud BIM technology specialist 3D Repo has signed up to the Open BIM Programme, an industry initiative championed by Graphisoft, Tekla and others to promote collaborative design, realisation and operation of buildings based on open standards and workflows. The initiative centres on the buildingSMART Data Model which is based on open standards such as Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and BIM Collaboration Format (BCF).
“Open BIM supports a transparent, open workflow, creating a common language and allowing end users to communicate with potential suppliers and procure projects with transparent commercial engagement, comparable service evaluation and assured data quality,” commented Dr Jozef Dobos, CEO of 3D Repo. “The aims and objectives of the Open BIM programme are so closely aligned with our own ethos that joining the community, and hopefully contributing to its growth and success, was obvious.”
“Construction is one of mankind’s most collaboration intense endeavours. It requires a joint effort from an array of different stakeholders. These stakeholders must be able to work together independent of their profession or their choice of software tool,” added Akos Pfemeter, Graphisoft Vice President of Marketing. “We at Graphisoft believe the prospect of BIM is Open BIM. Actually, we believe the only viable prospect is Open BIM. Therefore we are more than happy to welcome more and more parties to join the Open BIM movement, especially young innovative companies such as 3D Repo.”
