Trimble launches simplified accounting software for small contractors

Cloud-based financial management and job costing platform targets MEP, civil and general contractors with revenues under $10m

Trimble has released Trimble Financials, a construction-specific accounting and job costing application aimed at small contractors in the United States. The software is designed for firms with annual revenues of around $10 million or less that have outgrown spreadsheets but do not need, or cannot justify, the complexity of a full enterprise financial management platform.

The application covers the project financial lifecycle from proposal through to reporting and closeout. Users can create project cost proposals, track expenses by job, phase and cost type, and manage billing through customisable schedules and invoicing. As work progresses, dashboards display estimated versus actual costs and overall business profitability, with data feeding automatically into formatted financial statements.

Trimble positions the product as distinct from generic accounting software on the basis that it is built around construction job costing workflows rather than adapted from a general-purpose ledger. Jon Fingland, vice president at Trimble, said the software is “ideal for growing beyond financial management and analysis limitations of paper or spreadsheets and for businesses that may not need all of the features of more advanced, enterprise financial management platforms.”

The platform integrates with other Trimble products for estimating, project management and employee timekeeping, connecting field and office operations within a single data environment. An AI assistant is included for navigating the application through natural language prompts.

Trimble Financials is available as a standalone subscription or as part of new software packs tailored for small MEP, civil or general contractors. Each pack bundles the financial software with Trimble ProjectSight for project management, Trimble Connect as a common data environment and vertical-specific estimating and performance tracking tools. Trimble continues to offer its Vista and Spectrum systems for larger contractors with more complex ERP requirements.
