Matterport Point Cloud Import enables firms to bring registered E57 files into Matterport’s cloud platform

At Autodesk University 2026, Matterport demonstrated a new Point Cloud Import capability that allows users to bring an existing, registered E57 point cloud directly into a Matterport account, automatically generating a navigable 3D reality model.

Once imported, the model can be explored and shared as a Matterport “digital twin.” Users can open it in a browser on any device, move through the space, take measurements, add contextual information and extract spatial data. People who were never on site can mark up conflicts, check clearances and leave questions tied to specific pieces of equipment.

Matterport also showed workflows with Autodesk software. Autodesk Forma, for example, can receive anchored RFIs and issues through a bidirectional plug-in, while Matterport also provides direct workflows into Revit and Autodesk Tandem.

“Importantly, Matterport allows you to lock the registration and preserve the geometry contained in the E57 during import. The survey-grade point cloud, typically captured with a Leica, Faro, Trimble, or NavVis scanner, retains its existing registration.”
