With the new ‘Zen 3’ CPUs, AMD has finally taken Intel’s crown in single threaded performance, which is critical for CAD
BOXX is among the first workstation manufacturers to offer the new ‘Zen 3’ AMD Ryzen 5000 series of desktop CPUs, which appear to have finally taken Intel’s crown in single threaded performance, which is critical for CAD.
With the previous generation ‘Zen 2’ CPUs, AMD could only boast a performance lead in multi-threaded workflows, such as ray trace rendering, when compared to an equivalent Intel CPU, such as the Core i9-10900K.
According to BOXX, the APEXX Denali A3 workstation is purpose-built for Solidworks, Autodesk Revit, 3ds Max, Maya, Arnold, Cinema 4D, V-Ray, and other professional applications.
It features a choice of AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs with up to 16 cores / 32 threads at 4.9GHz with available overclocking through performance boost overdrive (PBO) and a 19% instructions per cycle (IPC) improvement over the previous generation.
The APEXX Denali is highly configurable and features up to two professional-grade AMD Radeon Pro or NVIDIA RTX GPUs, with support for PCIe 4.0 for maximum graphics and storage throughput. The liquid cooled machine also offers up to 128GB 3,200MHz DDR4 system memory, 10GB Ethernet, Thunderbolt 3, and Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSDs.
“The new AMD Ryzen™ 5000 series desktop processors provide leadership performance across a wide range of verticals for the BOXX APEXX Denali,” said Chris Kilburn, corporate vice president and general manager, client component business unit, AMD. “The groundbreaking performance and innovative features of the AMD Ryzen™ 5000 series will empower architects, engineers, 3D designers, and motion media professionals to create, render, and multitask faster than ever before.”
