Optional Intel Extreme Edition 6950X CPU makes machine powerful enough for CAD and ray trace rendering
Workstation Specialists has launched a new family of small form factor (SFF) workstations with specifications to rival most high-end single socket towers.
The 250 x 160 x 338mm (H x W x D) machine can take a choice of CPUs, up to the new 10 core Intel Extreme Edition 6950X (overclocked to 4.2GHz), and can also be kitted out with pretty much any Nvidia or AMD GPU, up to the 250W Nvidia Quadro M6000 24GB GPU.
Memory is limited to 32GB of DDR4 but it can hold up to three storage devices, including one M.2 NVMe SSD, one 2.5-inch SATA SSD and one 3.5-inch HDD.
Fully loaded, with a 10 Core Intel Core i7 6950X CPU running at 4.2GHz the WS-X1100S looks to be ideal for designers who use 3D CAD alongside a physically-based rendering tool like Luxion KeyShot.
However, Workstation Specialist also offers the budget focused WS-141S for entry-level CAD with a quad core Intel Core i5 or Core i7 CPU as well as an overclocked version, the WS-X141S.
AEC Magazine will be putting one of the new SFF workstations through its paces soon.
