Purpose-built engineering AI helps firms automate repetitive work and get “expert guidance”
Nemetschek brand Allplan has launched Allplan Max 2027, a new generation of “practical AI” designed specifically for engineering workflows, from modelling and analysis to detailing and fabrication.
Allplan Max is designed to work with the tools engineers already use, extending AI across Allplan’s broad engineering portfolio including the 2027 versions of Allplan, Allplan Civil, Frilo, SCIA, and SDS2.
The aim is to tackle time-consuming processes for engineering teams, including searching for information, checking models, preparing reports, creating formulas, cleaning drawings and repeating routine tasks.
The company stresses that Allplan Max supports engineering judgement rather than replacing it, and engineers remain responsible for design intent, review, approval and final outcomes.

Allplan, the product, brings AI into BIM, detailing and workflow customisation through capabilities such as Feature Builder, Workflow Builder, AI Formula Writer, AI BIM Analyst and AI Drafter.
Feature Builder uses AI to create custom functionality inside Allplan using natural-language descriptions and Python code. Workflow Builder connects Allplan to large language models and AI-agent platforms via an MCP Server, allowing firms to create agentic automations, retrieve project information, and connect Allplan with other systems using plain-language instructions..
Scia and Frolo extend AI into structural analysis and engineering decision support. It includes AI Structural Analyst, which automatically interprets raw internal forces, reactions, and deformations, to help engineers reach reliable decisions faster, and AI Coach, which delivers in-context guidance to help onboard junior and occasional users.
SDS2 brings AI into fabrication-oriented workflows, including an AI BIM Analyst, that allows users to use natural-language prompts to query model data, select objects, and generate complex reports, and an AI Drafter, that “intelligently places” erection-drawing labels without overlaps.
Allplan Max launches alongside Allplan 2027, which also introduces advances in reinforcement detailing, BIM information workflows and AI-powered customisation.
