ThinkPad P52 features Nvidia Quadro P3200, which on paper looks to be for entry-level VR workflows

At AEC Magazine’s NXT BLD event today in London, Lenovo unveiled its first VR-Ready Certified 15-inch mobile workstation, the ThinkPad P52, which is powered by the new Quadro P3200 GPU. It’s an important development for mobile VR as until recently almost all VR Ready mobile workstations were significantly larger machines with 17-inch displays.

Lenovo has also boosted the processor and memory, offering a choice of 8th Generation Intel Xeon and Core CPUs, including new six core models, and up to 128GB of DDR4, double that of its predecessor, the ThinkPad P51.

On paper the Nvidia Quadro P3200 looks to be slightly slower than the Quadro P4000, a popular VR-Ready GPU for older 17-inch mobile workstations, so the ThinkPad P52 will likely be for entry-level pro VR workflows only.

Virtalis, a VR and advanced visualization company, is using Lenovo’s new mobile workstation to power its new CVR2 Solution – a portable set up that allows Virtalis to share its solutions on the go.

The ThinkPad P52 also features an optional 4K Ultra high-definition panel that incorporates 100 percent of the Adobe color gamut. There are three USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 and two USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports.

The ThinkPad P52 will be available in late June.
