Low-cost, compact mobile workstation features 7th generation Core i7 CPUs

HP has updated its low cost, compact 15.6-inch mobile workstation, the HP ZBook 15u. The new G4 model features a choice of dual core 7th generation ‘Kaby Lake’ CPUs, including the Core i7 7600U (2.8 GHz, up to 3.9 GHz) Core i7 7500U (2.7 GHz, up to 3.5 GHz) Core i5 7300U (2.6 GHz, up to 3.5 GHz) and Core i5 7200U (2.5 GHz, up to 3.1 GHz).

The rest of the specifications remain largely the same as the G3 model. This includes the AMD FirePro W4190M GPU, up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory, 2TB of storage including the optional HP Z Turbo Drive G2, and an FHD touch or UHD display.

The mobile workstation features a long-life battery that supports HP Fast Charge, which is said to provide a quick recharge of up to 50% battery life in just 30 minutes of charging.

There are several security and manageability features, including the BIOS security feature – HP Sure Start Gen3, which monitors in-memory BIOS, recovers the platform without intervention, restores the BIOS to a custom state, and is enterprise ready for centralised management. The embedded Trusted Platform Module (TPM), Smart Card Reader and optional Finger Print Reader help secure data, e-mail and user credentials.

The HP ZBook 15u has multiple ports including a USB 3.1 Gen 1 port and DisplayPort 1.2. The HP ZBook 15u G4 is 383.3 x 257.7 x 19.9mm in size and weighs 1.9 kg upwards. Prices start at $1,079.
