The Xplore Bobcat weighs just over 1kg, has an 8 hour battery life and can withstand drops from 1.5m

Rugged mobile computing specialist Mobexx has introduced a new rugged slimline 10-inch MIL-STD-810G, IP-65 tested Windows 8.1 Professional tablet PC.

The Xplore Bobcat has front and back facing cameras, is powered by a powerful, energy efficient 1.9 GHz quad-core processor (Intel Bay Trail E3845), sports what is claimed to be one of the best rugged, backlit IPS LCD screens available in an industrial grade device and is available with range of connectivity and data capture options.

Mark Dale-Lace, Mobexx Director, says “The Bobcat truly punches above its weight – literally, as it only weighs just over 1 kg. The premium, fully environmentally sealed casing and magnesium alloy midframe allows the unit to withstand 1.52-metre drops (1.2-metre with accessories installed), keeping the software and system running and not missing a beat. As a mobile platform, the Bobcat is the whole package for mobile workers in all kinds of hostile environments, including explosive and hazardous. Plus, the long battery life ensures full eight-hour shifts, with the option of a hot swappable external battery will give an extra six hours – making it possible to run the device virtually nonstop for up to 14 hours if necessary.”

Product highlights include standard input and output features (RS 232, RJ45, two full size USB 3.0 ports, and micro SD and SIM slots – option to use 4G LTE for fast mobile communications), WiFi, Bluetooth and optional 1D and 2D barcode scanners, and options to add an access card reader, fingerprint scanner and NFC (near field communications).

The machine is equipped with a 128GB or 256GB solid state drive (SSD) and can be further expanded up to 128GB using the micro SDXC slot.

The outdoor viewable multi-touch display is said to adapt to inside and outside use instantly so that walking in and out of the shade of buildings and plant does not affect visibility of the screen. Carrying straps, handles and mobile docking station options are available too.
