Confirms modular building provider’s capability to engage on BIM Level 2 projects at capital delivery phase
Modular building provider, Portakabin, has been officially recognised by BSI (British Standards Institution) for its capability to work to BIM Level 2 as a tier 1 designer/contractor in accordance with PAS1192-2. “Portakabin has been working to BIM Level 2 standard on projects for a number of years; tier 1 verification confirms our capability to engage on BIM Level 2 enabled projects at the capital delivery phase,” said Paul Scaife, BIM manager at Portakabin. “This includes design and construction through to the asset handover.”
Building on the Government’s guidance, Portakabin has subsequently developed digital policies and protocols in line with the BIM mandate’s generic requirements for collaborative 3D modelling and related information management processes.
“The benefits of BIM are generally very well known, other key advantages of working at BIM Level 2 mean that we are operationally more efficient and can develop schemes that are also optimised for safety during the design and construction phases prior to handing over a building,” added Steve Newell, Director at Portakabin.
“BIM level 2 also promotes cost and programme certainties whilst delivering reduction in waste via lean design and construction processes and we are delighted to be in a position to pass these benefits on to our customers.’’
